Recently, I took up a new hobby; I started blogging and now I am addicted! A blog is likened to a diary except it is online and anyone can view it. Bloggers can choose to write about anything they want, post pictures and videos and even add fun gadgets to their blog. When blogging first started, it was mostly business people and some writers who maintained one. Now, almost everyone with an online presence of any kind has a blog. More and more people everyday are starting blogs. Everyone is starting to realize the power of blogging in cyberspace. Everything from advertising products, spreading news and sharing information and views can be done via blogs.
If you are thinking about starting a blog, the first thing you should do is brainstorm to figure out what it is you want to blog about. Do you want to focus on one particular niche or do you want to just blog about everything going on around you? Some people blog about their travels, others blog about their art and there are some people who even blog about blogging! The next step is to choose a platform with which to publish the blog. There are many of these to choose from. I use Blogger and have had much success with it. Some other platforms are Wordpress, Blogsmith, Typepad and Gawker. The steps are easy to follow and are all laid out for you. You will first be asked to pick a template, the colors you want to use, the font and other things that will make your blog look good and appealing to you and your visitors. You can go online and browse through various blogs to get ideas based on what others are doing. Once you have all this sorted out, you can begin making posts.
If you really want to get into blogging and benefit from it in more ways than just simply making posts and hoping a few people will read them, there are some things you can do to get more visitors and even make a bit of extra cash. Some ways to get more visitors to your blog include:
Traffic exchange websites. With these sites, you click on other people's blogs and you get credits for every blog you click, which transform into hits to your blog. Easy Hits 4 U is an example of a traffic exchange website and Entrecard is another one that has added benefits as well.
